With bright blue hair flying, eight-year-old Dianna McLean zipped up a pyramid ramp and cruised to the edge of the skate park, grinning as she gave her mom a high-five. She’s one of the participants at Right to Skate’s summer camp — and her reason for picking up a board came from an unlikely place. “She had asked to be in a skateboard camp this summer after her rock star hero, Avril Lavigne, who’s a skateboarder — and she wanted to learn how to do the same,” said her mom, Lesley McLean.

Register solo or register as a team! Registration Fee is $140/golfer.

$10,000 Hole-in-one prize on designated hole.

Shotgun Start: Teams begin play at the same time, 3pm, at their designated hole. Please arrive with plenty of time to collect your team and golf cart, after which there will be a players meeting, the shotgun goes off, and teams head to their designated starting hole. The team will play through each consecutive hole until they have golfed 12 holes.

Scramble Style: 4-man scramble is a golf format in which all players work collectively to get one best score on each hole. Players each tee off, select the best shot, and then shoot from that ball instead of their own. Play continues like this from each shot until the ball is in the hole. The team writes down one score from each hole.

Lara Sharbel’s solution for skateboarders

Have you ever used an ankle brace skateboarding to recover from a sprained ankle? Most store bought braces either offer too minimal support, or complete immobilization, meaning you are either at risk of rolling it again, or too constrained to make a flicking motion on your board. Saskatoon skater and engineering student Lara Sharbel is creating a solution just for skateboarders!

We are looking for your input on this project! If you have ever injured your ankle or worn a brace, you can help by filling out this survey!

Here is a complete project description from Lara:

The project: The ankle brace will be my capstone project in my last year of mechanical engineering. Me and my team will design a brace that allows for an adjustable range of motion so that skaters can build up their strength after an injury and feel safe on the board without limiting the tricks they can do.

What is a capstone: An engineering capstone project is a year-long course during the last year of the degree in which a small team of students work together to solve real-world problems for industries or communities. During this project we apply technical skills that were taught throughout the degree, to test and develop solutions with professional engineering standards.

What do I need: The first step to getting this project approved for my final year is showing that there is a need and support in the community. By filling out this questionnaire I can show my professor that there is interest and a market for this product - people don't have to be involved in the project beyond the questionnaire.
